Le Dome

You can see the reflections of the trees next to the boulevard and of the buildings on the opposite side of the street .... in the windows of this historic facade.
Information about the famous Montparnasse artists' district and its cafe life is available here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montparnasse
and fantastic vintage postcards with links to other postcards of this area of Paris are here:paris1900.lartnouveau.com/paris00/le_quartier_montparnass...
This is part of someones's series on the Historic Cafes of Paris.
The recent trip to this marvellous city was focused on recording some of these places that are such a fascinating part of 20th century art history.
In the early 1900's many artists moved to Montparnasse from other districts of Paris as well as from all over the world to participate in what was an international phenomenon of creativity and socializing.
It became quite the scene! Artists came here to study, to learn, to inspire one another, and well........to party!! They were the vanguard of the modern art movement.
Their homes and studios are still visible in this part of Paris, which of course was conveniently located near numerous cafes which they were to make famous.
Le Dome is one of several cafes where they enjoyed meeting one another to discuss art theory and life.
Other cafes are nearby -- grouped around two main intersections at Boulevards Raspail and du Montparnasse.
The Select, La Rotonde, La Coupole, La Closerie des Lilas.....among others..... are all within minutes walking distance.
