Le Procope, Paris

Paris' OLDEST cafe, dating to the 1600's!

The French Revolutionaries met here to plan their moves.
Benjamin Franklin had coffee here, and so did Thomas Jefferson.

When coffee was first introduced here it was considered a 'radical drink' and Madame de Pompadour apparently tried unsuccessfully to have it banned from court. !!

The back entrance to this cafe is on the ancient Cour de Commerce St. Andre which has remained unchanged for centuries.

It has some of Paris' oldest cobblestones and you can see how the street looks in my two images of L'Odeon, a bistro that gives onto that square, in my Cafe set.
